What is 'Veluweloop'?

The 'Veluweloop' is a relay run which has been organized for the 30th year and takes place on the 11th of September 2010, with the start and finish located in Wageningen. The run itself has a total length of over 80 kilometers, most of which is located in forests and nature reserves surrounding Wageningen. The relay run consists of 12 stretches, and includes stretches for both man and woman: each team therefore needs 12 athletes, 8 men and 4 women, to complete the total distance. The individual stretches vary from 4 to 11 km. There are three restarts. The first restart takes place at the NIFV. The second is not yet known. The last stretch is a special restart with a finish on the athletics track at the sports center ‘de Bongerd’ where after a long day of running and cycling the last athletes of every team will be cheered at by approximately 2000 fans. At the 'Bongerd' you will have the opportunity to change clothes and take a shower before the party begins and prizes are dealt out. Roughly 100 teams will be joining you in this relay race.
>> Stretch distances (route)

Every runner is accompanied by a teammate on a bike providing information on the route to ensure you find your way. On the changeover points one of your teammates will take over from you and the individual time and place on your stretch will be recorded. The team results as well as the individual results will be available for all runners on the website soon after the relay race has finished (several printed results will be available several hours after the last people have finished running).

Biking team versus car/bus teams
You can register either as a biking team or as a car/bus team. Biking teams are not allowed to use cars to bring their runners to the changeover points but get there by bike. See the example schedule and general instructions for details on aspects like how to structure your team. If you prefer to bring your runners by car to the changeover points you can find the information about how to get to these changeover points in the route description book. The printed version of this book in Dutch will be available for all team members. You are recommended to print and copy the schedule for you and your teammates as a guide in assisting teammates that will follow you along your stretch by bike or car. It is possible to rent bikes from us for your team (only by reservation).

Rules
The relay run consists of a total of 12 stretches, of which 8 are to be run by men, and 4 by women. The stretches for men are usually longer and more strenuous than for women (see stretch distances). If a man is running a woman’s stretch, a penalty time is included to the real running time of that runner. If a woman decides to run a man’s stretch, a bonus time will be deducted from the real running time for that particular runner. A bonus like this will be given to a maximum of 3 runners per team. At the end of the relay race the entire bonus and penalty times are included in the total running time of each team. This total time determines the final classification of the team. The 3 top teams are awarded with a prize. The price ceremony will take place around 21.00 pm.
